Sturgeon County – The Cardiff / Sturgeon Agriplex, located in Cardiff Park, will soon have a new concession and meeting room, thanks to a $40,000 Community Facilities Enhancement Program (CFEP) grant. Barrhead-Morinville-Westlock MLA Maureen Kubinec presented the matching dollar grant to the group May 21 on behalf of the Honourable Heather Klimchuk, Minister of Culture.

“The work that those types of organizations do is incalculable for how much it does for our province,” Kubinec said of groups like the Sturgeon Agriplex Society. “You get huge results when people volunteer their time and their labour.”

Liz MacLean of the Sturgeon Agriplex Society said the funding would allow the group to move forward with its third phase of renovations on the facility. Although construction has begun, completion of the project is expected to occur some time next year.

MacLean said the facility was originally built to accommodate horse riders in 1990. While that still goes on with regularity, the Agriplex has become a popular rental venue for dog agility training. When renovations are completed, the facility will boast meeting rooms that can be rented by anyone.

“We haven’t got meeting rooms just yet, but our mindset is to have a concession area with a meeting room that would be available for anyone to rent,” MacLean said.

The Sturgeon Agriplex Society currently has 40 members involved with the facilitiy and its various projects.
