Morinville – Local businesses, an Entrec picker truck, crane, and operator Matt Barnes combined to hit a home run for the ball diamonds at the Skyline Sports Field June 11 and 12.

Spruce Grove-based Entrec Corporation provided two days of service to help lift and place eight new shelters for the ball diamonds manufactured locally by Craig’s Welding.

Public Works Operations Manager Donald Fairweather began the project to replace the ball diamond shelters a few years ago.

Craig’s Welding Weld Shop Foreman Terry Brenneis said the shelters weigh more than 2,000 pounds each. After lifting the shelters into place, they were bolted in place with supplies from Home Hardware on cement pads poured by Abacus Concrete.

Brenneis said three-foot benches would be added to the shelters soon. Each of the shelters will have a silver and blue front piece with the ball diamond number to make them clearly stand out.
