Morinville – More than 140 guest of all ages attended at the first Minstrels Open House, held June 18 at the Rendez-Vous Centre, a one-hour performance followed by a sing-along with the audience. Minstrels’ Conductor Dagmar Lietz had 22 singers accompanied by Jean Storey on piano performing 15 songs from their afternoon program.

Lietz said a choir member had suggested the idea of an open house. “Family and friends never get to hear them sing,” she said, adding the Minstrel members are all over 50 years of age, and include a couple of great grandparents.

The group gathers once a week to practice, and once a week they visit a lodge. The Minstrels have performed at 47 lodges this year, including Westlock, Fort Saskatchewan, Stony Plain and Evansburg.

The Morinville Minstrels recently returned from a four-day road trip to southern Alberta. They will be performing at the St. Jean Baptiste Festival opening ceremonies in St. Jen Baptiste Park Saturday at 11 a.m.
