Morinville – A special meeting regarding Council leadership in the absence of a mayor will be held Thursday afternoon. The Town announced at 2:27 p.m. Tuesday afternoon Deputy Mayor Lisa Holmes had called the meeting for Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

With the passing of Mayor Paul Krauskopf, the Municipal Government Act requires Council to select a new mayor from the remaining members of Council at their next regular meeting (Aug. 27) unless a special meeting is called. During the interim, the deputy mayor would lead Council business; however, a special meeting can be called by the deputy mayor or by a majority request of Council.

Tuesday’s e-mail did not indicate specifically how or why the meeting was called.
