Morinville resident and avid ball player Richard Houle is off to the Alberta 55 Plus Summer Games over the weekend to once again participate in the slo-pitch event.

Houle said he has attended the games, which are held every two years, for at least 12 years. He has attended every year since he became eligible at 55.

He brought home the Gold medal for Zone 5 in 2009 when the games were held in Airdrie. Houle and Jerry Wozniak received first place in the 55 Plus Slo-pitch event.

Houle is a member of the Old Buzzards and 60+ Golden Dynasty teams in St. Albert. In the winter he plays ball with three different teams in Phoenix. His favourite position is outfield.

Morinville resident George St. Laurent will join Houle at the games. Both will be at the Clyde Grounds this weekend for the slo-pitch event. Sturgeon County Norman Caruthers, Robert Frey, Barry Properzi and Patricia Soetaert are also registered with the slo-pitch event.

The 55 Plus Alberta Summer Games will be held July 25 to 28 in the communities of Barrhead, Westlock and Clyde. More than 1,000 participants from eight provincial zones are set to participate.
