Morinville – Though the Morinville Farmers’ Market has packed up its canopy tents for another outdoor season, residents and visitors will soon have the opportunity to shop for produce and products on Friday afternoons once again. The market will move into the lobby of the Ray McDonald Sports Centre on Fridays beginning Oct. 18, operating from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. throughout the winter.
Morinville Farmers’ Market Manager Korien Sampson is excited about the opportunity. I’m just totally pumped about it,” she said. “I think it’s beneficial for the town to keep the market open year round. I’m hoping to attract new and different vendors, and that way grow our outdoor market as well. Expanding the market is something I think the community would like.”
Sampson said many of her vendors are pleased at the opportunity to have a year-round venue to promote their products and are planning to continue to operate.
The market will run every Friday except during Nov. 29 Light Up the Night Festival and on Good Friday. The market reconvenes outdoors in the parking lot the first Friday in June.
First they get a new home for the summer edition and then they decide to try a winter version – bloody excellent!
I think this is a great idea and the timing (4:00 to 7:00) ensures that those who work outside Morinville have a chance to swing by and check it out on the way home. It will also be interesting to see which venders are selling their wares at this iteration of our market and I will continue to poke around to check things out.
Pity that Taber corn isn’t available year round!
