Big win for the Morinville Kings

The Morinville Kings took to home ice Saturday night to take on the NCHL North Divison’s top-ranked Devon Barons, emerging with an important 7-5 win for the Senior AA club.

The Kings entered the contest with a 3-1 lead by the end of the first period, built to a 6-2 lead by the end of the middle frame, but fell somewhat in the third period as the Barons battled back with another three goals. The Kings addition during the final 20 minutes put them two over the Barons.

Saturday night’s win brings the Kings’ season record to 3-2-0, placing them in a three-way tie for first place in the North Division. Though the Kings, Barons and Warriors sit with six points apiece five games into the season, the Kings trail a bit in terms of goals for. The club has averaged 4.8 goals per game, compared to 6.6 for the Barons and 6.8 per game for the Warriors. One area where the Kings are the clear frontrunners is in penalty minutes. The Kings have racked up 226 minutes in the box thus far this season.

The club takes to the road Nov. 15 to face the 3-2-0 Warriors and return home Nov. 16 to take on the 2-4-0 Athabasca Aces.

Midget AA Mustangs

This year we have a team makeup from all different areas and ages. We have players who come from the Gibbons and Redwater area to Wabamun and Westlock. Our size ranges from 5.5 ft to 6.2 ft, throughout the lineup. We have various age ranges from 15-17 years old. The older players are doing great helping the younger ones during games and practices. The team is getting along very well, despite our rough start to the season so far. The teamwork is coming along very well and will soon show in our record. We have two outstanding goalies that have kept us in the games and we will reward them with some victories. The boys are keeping their heads held up high and competing until the final buzzer.
