Kings and Jets sit at top and bottom of respective leagues

The Morinville Kings and Morinville Jets are at opposite ends of the standings in their respective leagues well into the 2013-2014 hockey season. The Kings have risen through nine games this season to sit with a 7-2-0 record, placing them in a two-way tie with the Devon Barons for first place in the North Central Hockey League’s North Division, and in a three-way tie with the Barons and Drayton Valley Wildcats for first place in the league overall. The Jets are currently sitting with an 8-12-2 record, placing them in sixth slot out of seven teams in the Capital Junior Hockey League’s West Division, as well as in second last place overall.
Heading into Sunday night’s game against the Edmonton Mustangs, a contest the Jets won 6-3, the Jets were averaging 4.81 goals per game and giving up an average of 4.86 each time they played. The club also is struggling in the penalty department, topping the CJHL with 882 minutes in their first 21 games.
The Senior AA Kings have averaged 5.44 goals per game in their first nine outings, giving up slightly less with 5.22 goals against on average. Like the Jets, the Kings also top their league in penalty minutes with 350 minutes in the bin in nine outings.
Thus far this season, the Kings have two players topping the team in goals. Both Brayden Arcand and Dalen Paul, both former Morinville Jets have eight goals apiece and an almost equal number of assists. On the Jets roster stats, Travis Geislinger leads the scoring for the club with 17 goals in 21 games, followed by Justin Proulx with 16 goals in the same number of outings.
The Morinville Jets play two games this week – a road game to face-off against the Beverly Warriors Wednesday night and a home game against the Spruce Grove Regals Sunday at 6:45 p.m. The Kings play one game this week, a home-ice showdown against the Whitecourt Wild Dec. 14, their final game for 2013. Game time for the Kings contest is 8 p.m. at the Ray McDonald Sports Centre.
SHC Initiation 4 Timbits
We have a great team of 13 skaters and are a mix of 1st, 2nd and 3rd year players with six girls and seven boys. We have quite a few siblings on the team, so the practices can get intense! The team has been practicing very hard and gets better with each practice. We have our first road game scheduled for December 7th and we are also looking forward to our Timbit Jamboree at the end of February! We love playing the other teams, practicing and most importantly – having FUN!
