Crime Watch
Sturgeon Rural Crime Watch (SRCW) president Roger Nykipilo spoke to members on alarm clarifications from the RCMP at the General Meeting held Jan. 14 at the Provincial Building. Nykipilo said the RCMP respond to verified alarm calls, which are defined as a confirmation that a criminal offence has or is taking place. Confirmation may be a witness, security guard, company employee, real time video monitoring, or a key holder. Nykipilo said RCMP would ensure public safety by responding to all panic and verified alarm calls.

The evening’s agenda included new clothing items with SRCW crests and sponsorship for the DARE program. The SRCW January Communications Report had 753 active members on the database, with 477 phone-out communications and 342 email-out communications. For 2013 they processed 135 email messages.
