It was a weekend of wins for the Morinville Junior B Jets and Morinville Senior AA Kings. The Jets played twice, the Kings once between Friday and Sunday.

The Jets earned two out of a possible four points over the weekend, a 7-6 overtime victory against the Leduc Schwabb Riggers Friday night, and a 3-2 home-ice loss to the visiting Stony Plain Flyers Sunday night. The win and loss bring the Jets record to 15-15-2 and holds the club in third slot in the Capital Junior Hockey League’s West Division.

The Jets have two games remaining this month, a Friday night road game to take on the league-leading St. Albert Merchants, and a Sunday night home game to take on the Fort Saskatchewan Hawks. February will see the Jets take to the ice for their remaining four games of the CJHL’s 38-game regular season before taking to round one of playoffs.

The Kings travelled to Slave Lake Saturday to take on the Winterhawks, returning with a 6-5 overtime victory for their troubles. It was their second OT win in as many weeks. Saturday night’s win brings the Kings record to 12-3-0 this season, a tally that keeps them firmly planted in the top slot in the North Central Hockey League’s North Division and in the league overall. The only club still nipping at their skate heel are the Devon Barons, who have played one game more than the Kings this season due to one of the Kings’ games being cancelled because of road conditions.

The Kings play two games this week, a road trip to Drayton Valley Friday night to face off against the Wildcats, and a Saturday night home game against the visiting Edson Ice. Game time for Saturday’s home game is 8:30 p.m. at the Ray McDonald Sports Centre.

UPDATE: The Kings will play a third game this week, their final for the regular season. A makeup game with the Dayton Valley Wildcats is set for Sunday, Jan. 26 at 4 p.m. That game takes place at the ray McDonald Sports Centre.
