Edmonton – The Morinville Jets ended the regular season Sunday night with a 4-2 loss to the Edmonton Mustangs, the third-ranked team in the Capital Junior Hockey League’s West Division. The Jets ended the first period tied 1-1 with the Mustangs, but fell by two in the middle frame to end the period trailing 3-1. The final period gave an extra goal to each team but did little to reverse the Jets’ fortunes.

It was the Jets’ third loss in as many outings, having been defeated 5-1 on home ice Tuesday night by the visiting Strathcona Bruins, and again Friday night in a 9-7 defeat at the hands of the visiting North Edmonton Red Wings.

Though the club may not have done as well this season as fans hoped, they end their 2013/2014 regular season run with a 17-19-2 record, sufficient to give them a slot and a shot in the first round of playoffs.

The qualifying round is a best-of-three series that will place the Jets against the Beverly Warriors. The third place Mustangs will take on the sixth place Stony Plain Flyers in their opening round. The Spruce Grove Regals finished in last place and are excluded from playoffs. The St. Albert Merchants and North Edmonton Red Wings ended in first and second place respectively and receive a first round bye.

Game one of the Jets / Warriors series will be played in Edmonton Friday night. Game two will be be played in Morinville Sunday night at 6:45 p.m.
