Sturgeon Atom 1 Mustangs

This year’s Sturgeon Atom A Mustangs consists of 11 players and 1 goalie. 12 players that always put everything they got on the ice. Our Mustangs are definitely driven. Was their room for improvement, Yes there was, did this team improve, yes they did. They have risen to the top of their tier. With the excitement of Playoffs and Provincials coming the Sturgeon Mustang fans have been giving their full support for our Atom Mustangs. They win as a team and loose as a team and once they except each others strength and weaknesses only then they will become a team, which is happening right before our eyes. Go, Mustangs.

Bantam Sabretooths rock season

There was good news Saturday night from The Morinville Orijen Sabretooths. The Bantam girls have completed their regular season undefeated 15-0. Playoffs and provincials are up next.
The previous group of Bantam players ran three complete seasons, city and provincial championships without a loss. These girls are off to a good start in repeating that.

Scholarship honours memory of former Morinville Jet captain

The Morinville Jets final home game of the season started in a solemn fashion Friday night with the presentation of the Nick McRae Memorial Scholarship to Cameron Melville. The award is given to a player apprenticing in a trade as the late Jet Captain did.

McRae, remembered for his love of life and his ability to spread that love to those he came in contact with, was killed in an ATV accident Sept. 3, 2012. The memorial scholarship was first presented Nov. 11, 2012, the night McRae’s No. 11 jersey was retired and lifted to the rafters of the Ray McDonald Sports Centre. The team has worn McRae’s number on their sleeves in memory of their fallen teammate since that time.
“He was a true Jet from his first game played until his last game as a Jet,” said former coach and friend Alan Fraser. “He cherished the game, the camaraderie, and the organization the Morinville Jets provided for him. He started as a rookie and ended his career as the captain of the team.”
