Champion a finalist once again

Edmonton – After winning the Alberta Chambers of Commerce Award of Distinction in the Export Category, Morinville’s Champion Petfoods once again finds itself a finalist for another award. The Alberta Export Awards announced their finalists for the 2014 award season Thursday, and Champion Petfoods is a finalist in the Agricultural and Consumer Products division, a category that recognizes an Alberta company that specializes in and exports end products for direct-to-consumer or retail markets. Champion in is the running with Green Prairie International Inc.

“Being a finalist for the 2014 Alberta Export Awards in the Agricultural & Consumer Products category is an honour,” said Champion President and CEO, Frank Burdzy. “Our 250 teammates work very hard to export our Biologically Appropriate foods to over 70 countries. They drive our innovation.”

The awards are produced in partnership with Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME) and JuneWarren-Nickle’s Energy Group. In addition to Champion’s category of Agricultural and Consumer Products, other award categories include Emerging Exporter, Manufacturing; Oil & Gas, Manufacturing; Other, Technology and Media, Services, Exporter of the Year and Leadership. Finalists were selected from a large pool of nominees, representing Alberta companies and industries demonstrating success and innovation in the export sector.

“Alberta’s future economic prosperity depends on increasing our market access,” said the Honourable Cal Dallas, Minister, International and Intergovernmental Relations in a release Thursday. “It’s essential that we continue to expand our international profile, particularly in today’s competitive global marketplace,”

Champion and the other finalists in the 2014 Alberta Export Awards will learn if they are this year’s award recipient May 23 at the Westin Hotel in Edmonton during an awards luncheon and networking reception.
