Building bridges

The Hands On Science In-School Science Field Trip for Edmonton and Area brought their Awesome Bridge Workshop to Morinville Public
Elementary School Thursday. Students had four bridges models to construct: stone arch, metal truss, concrete girder and cable suspension
bridge. Using teamwork, each group shared the role of foreman, constructed the four styles of bridges, and had the opportunity to work with different materials and fasteners.

Bargain hunters hit the streets

On Saturday morning garage sale enthusiasts Laura Bertrand, Rae-Lyn Lefebvre and Wendy Rentz were checking out the map and locations before departing on their treasure hunt. Bertrand came down from Lac La Biche to visit friends and family and to attend the event.
Morinville Public Elementary School held their 2nd Annual Garage Sale Fundraiser in Support of Multiple Sclerosis Saturday. The bike tour is 185 km over two days and 100 per cent of the money raised from the garage sale will be donated to the bike tour to help MS. Ryan Olson, Lisa Olson, Norma Dykeman, Jenn McCoy (leader) and Wayne Rufiange are five of the eight members riding in the MS Tour in June working the garage sale on Saturday. Missing from the photo were Kari Morgan, Meghan Prefontaine and Monique Webb.
Aspen resident Edith Kowalski was looking over some of the garage sale items in the Aspen House living room on Saturday morning. All proceeds from the garage sale go towards the Aspen House Recreation Fund.
Vollrath and friends

Fiddling sensation Calvin Vollrath performed three nights at the Morinville Community Cultural Centre over the weekend. This year
Vollrath was joined by American fiddle player Byron Berline (middle). Approximately 160 came out to the Sold Out dinner and
dance Friday night.
Safety call
Town of Morinville Staff installed another solar-powered cross walk Tuesday, this one on 100 Street and 101 Avenue. Last fall a number of the cross walks were installed at school crossings in Morinville.

Thank you, volunteers
Morinville Public Elementary School students Katie Wallace (playing the alto metallophone) and Faith Boulanger (on the bass xylophone) entertained at the Volunteer Tea held at the school Thursday afternoon. The Tea included a small token of appreciation for each volunteer, cake and refreshments.

Celebrating strengths
Notre Dame students Emily Hill, Ryenne Marczak, Clare Rolleston, Hayley Sweet and Marissa Hager performed the Cup Song for students, staff, teachers, parents and guests during the Celebrating Our Strengths aseembly held at the school Friday. The Grade 2 performance included judo, scooter riding and a rope skipping demonstration, as well as the cup song and one student speaking four languages. The musical portion included a few duos in song and dance and two students playing piano. Grade 1 students will be the focus of the June version of the event. Students have to audition and are judged on preparedness, originality, quality of the talent and entertainment value.

Freedom of the City
Edmonton Mayor Don Iveson inspects the troops during a ceremony granting 1st Battalion Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (1 PPCLI) the Freedom of the City Friday. PPCLI was last granted the right in 1966. Based at Canadian Forces Base Edmonton, 1 PPCLI celebrates its centennial this summer.
