Morinville – The Library may not be the first place people think of when they think of loads of laughter,
but this year’s festival may just change that. The Morinville Community Library is partnering with the Festival Society to open this year’s St. Jean Baptiste Festival with an evening of Stand Up Comedy featuring three talented comedians.

Headlining the show is Lars Callieou, who, in addition to opening the Hubcap Comedy Festival in Moncton, New Brunswick with Bob Saget, has also toured with Joan Rivers on three occassions. Lars currently has a comedy special airing on the Comedy Network, and he
has made appearances at the Just for Laughs and Halifax Comedy Festivals.

SB_2012_0009Sharing the stage with Callieou is comedian Scott Belford, a man who walked onto the comedic stage after working as a radio DJ for many years. Since first picking up the mic, Belford has won funniest person in Edmonton at the West Edmonton Mall’s Comic Strip, and subsequently opened for big name acts, including Jay Mohr and Pauly Shore. Belford has also toured across the country from Victoria to Halifax with his act.

Adding a home-grown element to the comedy night is Morinville’s own Wyatt Zieger, an 18-year-old comedian who has been making a name for himself in the Edmonton comedy scene. Zieger was recently asked by professional comedians to enter this year’s Funniest Comedian with a Day Job competition at the Comic Strip.

The show takes place June 20 at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for this licensed event are $10 per person, and are available at the library, Bumper-to-Bumper and Morinville Sobeys.

The event is co-sponsored by The Morinville News and Infinite Event Services.
