Sturgeon County – Celina and August Kieser were the recipients of the Fred Scharmann Award presented at the Sturgeon Rural Crime Watch Association (SRCWA) Barbecue held June 11.

Mrs. Sheila Scharmann and her son Craig presented the 2014 Fred Scharmann Award to the Kiesers for their selfless community volunteer dedication to Crime prevention.

The award was developed by SRCWA to recognize individuals who have made outstanding volunteer contributions towards making Sturgeon Communities safer through the promotion and ongoing support of crime prevention activities. The Kieser name will be added to an honour roll established in the name of the late Fred Scharmann, who throughout his life set a high standard of community volunteer work.

The Kiesers have volunteered for Legal’s Fête au Village, Morinville
Frontier Days, the Catholic Women’s League, Knights of Columbus, and growing flowers every year for St. Jean Baptiste Church. They have attended many School DARE Grads throughout the years as representatives of SRCW. Whenever the SCRWA float appeared in parades in St. Albert, Morinville, Legal, Gibbons and Bon Accord they were there smiling and promoting SCRW.

August and Celina Kieser joined SRCWA in 1989 and are still an active part of the leadership team as the Zone 7 Directors and participating on a number of committees and projects throughout the years.
