Morinville woman’s battle with cancer leads to fundraiser to help others

A Morinville woman is turning adversity into hope with an upcoming fundraiser in aid of the Alberta Cancer Foundation. The Leap of Faith Golf Tournament, Silent Auction and Show and Shine will take place Aug. 16 at Terrae Pines Golf Course and the Morinville Legion, and is seeking to raise $5,000 for the cause. The tournament, a four-ball / best-ball game, is open to golfers of all ages. Cost of the tournament is $80 per person and includes green fees, golf cart, and a steak dinner…. […]

Bistro di Madre Piccola will be celebrating its first anniversary serving fine food to Morinvillians Aug. 10. The restaurant opened on that date last summer, almost two months after Don’s Bar and Bistro, which had been at the same location for nearly three years, suddenly closed. Although Bistro di Madre Piccola proprietors Christine Pereira and Deepthi Pelenage were first time restaurant owners, their faces were familiar to those who tried out the new establishment because they had been employees of Don’s Bistro since it opened in 2010. The Morinville Food Bank Society have $1,500 more to work with after receiving a donation from Morinville’s Artic Therm. General Manager Troy Simoneau and Office Manager Tracey Strand presented the donation Thursday afternoon to Food Bank Society Vice President Ken Skjersven.
Artic Therm, located in Morinville’s industrial park, hosts a yearly client appreciation party. This year was the first time they added a dunk tank on site. Some of the money raised from the event was to pay for management and staff going in the dunk tank to be dunked. … […]

Impaired driving is RCMP focus for August

The Morinville RCMP will be focusing on impaired drivers during the month of August, part of the detachment’s ongoing efforts to keep area roads safe by participating with provincial sheriffs and other law enforcement agencies in following Alberta’s traffic safety calendar. Each month of the year, police have a particular traffic safety focus. In July police kept their eyes on occupant restraints, particularly drivers not wearing them.
