Press Release Submitted by The Town of Morinville

Morinville – Between April 15 and June 30, 2014, the Town of Morinville conducted a municipal census to obtain an official count of the number of people living in the community.

Since the last census, conducted in 2011, Morinville has seen a 9.7 per cent increase, resulting in a new population of 9,402 or an addition of 833 residents. This steady increase in population contributes to a 23 per cent increase over the past five years.

“We are thrilled with the continued growth of Morinville!” said Mayor Lisa Holmes. “It is exciting that we have so many new residents that have decided to call Morinville home. This is a good indication that Morinville is a healthy, vibrant and sustainable community, one that is full of community pride and rich heritage. As our town continues to grow, Council is committed to managing this growth through sound planning and financial accountability. As Morinville “Grows Together”, we remain a great place in which to live, work and play.”

Up-to-date census data helps Morinville obtain population-based grant dollars for residents counted in the census. Census data collected provides insight into municipal services such as programming, support services, location of schools, parks, and fire protection. Census data is also important to developers and businesses deciding to build or locate in Morinville. A full report will be made public at the regular meeting of Council on Aug, 26, 2014.

This year 40 per cent of residents completed the census online. The Town of Morinville offered residents the opportunity to participate in three contests. The Town of Morinville is proud to announce the winners of a gift package from the Town for participating in the census contests.
