Canadian Forces Prairie Slo-Pitch wraps up in Morinville

The Canadian Armed Forces Men’s and Women’s Prairie Region Slo-pitch Tournament was held in Morinville this week. The three-day event was held at the Skyline Sports Field. Teams from Edmonton, 4 Wing Cold Lake, Wainwright and Shilo made up the Men’s teams. Edmonton, Cold Lake and Winnipeg made up the three Women’s’ teams.

The five regions from across Canada: Atlantic, Ontario, Pacific, Prairie and Quebec host their Regional Slo-pitch tournaments with the winner advancing to the National Championships which are to be held at Canadian Forces Base Borden in September.

The Edmonton Men’s and Women’s team both placed first in the Prairie Region, with Cold Lake Men’s and Women’s teams in second place. The Edmonton teams were presented with their plaque and first place medals at the closing ceremony held at the Skyline Diamond 3 on Thursday afternoon by Major Nolan, Deputy Commander Chief Personnel Services and MWO Dumont, Regimental Sgt-Major for Chief Personnel Services.

The emcee for the closing ceremony was Marcel Roy, the Edmonton Fitness and Sports Director. The military fitness and sports provides members with activities to ensure physical fitness which aides to meet operational readiness and requirements, build character, morale and promote team comradeship. The CF National Sports program promotes the fitness and good health of its members and helps it build their teamwork, loyalty and commitment.
