The province has selected the Town of Morinville, partnered with the Morinville Historical & Cultural Society, as one of 92 Host Celebration Site for Alberta Culture Days for the second year in a row.

Alberta Culture Days, taking place Sept. 26 to 28, are considered a vibrant, three-day, province-wide celebration that recognizes the value of Alberta’s arts and cultural communities.

“We are proud to be selected by the province once again as a host site for Alberta Culture Days,” said Morinville Mayor Lisa Holmes in a release issued last week. “This will be an exciting weekend for residents of Morinville and the region.”

Three days of culture

Local activities kick off Friday Sept. 26 with the annual Sturgeon Community Hospital Foundation Fundraising Gala & Art Exhibit. On Saturday, Edmonton’s Taiko Drum Group, Booming Tree, will open the 2014/2015 Morinville Community Cultural Centre performance season. A series of drumming workshops led by Booming Tree and other professional musicians will be offered free of charge to up-and-coming musicians and the general public prior to the concert. Additionally, a variety of visual art workshops will be held throughout the weekend. The weekend will conclude with Morinville OnStage – an opportunity for community groups and residents to celebrate, perform, and enjoy local talent.

The Morinville Community Library and the Musée Morinville Museum will also be holding special arts and culture events and exhibits throughout the weekend.
