The Morinville Centennial Community Gardens and the Morinville Food Bank Society were the recipients of $14,943.15 in proceeds from the 2014 Capital Region Board Golf Tournament hosted by Morinville and held at the Cardiff Golf & Country Club Aug. 7. Each of the two local causes will receive $7,471.58

In his presentation to Council Sept. 10 Schaun Goodeve, Morinville’s Economic Development Officer, said the event attracted 97 golfers, had 33 sponsors and raised almost $5,000 more than the $10,000 they were targeting for the two non-profits.

Each year a community within the Capital Region Board area is selected to host the annual golf tournament. Attendees include elected officials, municipal administrators and staff, businesses and other regional stakeholders.

The host community identifies an organization or multiple organizations to receive proceeds above the operational costs. This year the mayor and Council chose the Food Bank and Community Gardens.

The 2015 host community is Stony Plain.

We will have complete coverage of the Sept. 10 Council meeting Wednesday afternoon
