Hockey fundraiser

Josh Meuniere and Austin Poburn of the Sturgeon Pee Wee A Mustangs were selling Grey Cup Pool Tickets at the Morinville Sobeys Sunday afternoon. The two hockey players and their team are having a great season so far with eight wins and one tie. The team was off for a road trip to Stony Plain Sunday night. Results were not available by our press deadline.

Ferguson helps Sweeting win Masters Grand Slam

Morinville resident Dana Ferguson helped Team Sweeting win the Masters Grand Slam in Women’s curling Sunday. Ferguson is second on Valerie Sweeting’s team who won 5-4 in the final in Manitoba, defeating Sweden’s Margaretha Sigfridsson.

Kings have solid weekend

kingsThe Morinville Senior AA Kings were two for two over the weekend with a 7-4 victory over the visiting Whitecourt Wild on Saturday night and an 6-3 win over Edson on the road Sunday afternoon.

Saturday night’s home-ice showdown saw the Kings struggling through two periods, trailing 2-1 and 3-2 respectively. But the club turned it around in the final 20 minutes by pocketing five goals to the Wild’s single effort.

In fact, the Kings pocketed three goals in succession in less than five minutes. Glendon Macklem, Brayden Arcand and Joshua Lafleche earning those three contributions to bring the game to a 5-3 reversal in the Kings favour. After letting one in midway through the period on a powerplay, the Kings’ Cody Issler and Brayden Arcand each pocketed one to end the game 7-4.

Sunday afternoon’s road trip saw the Kings stall on a 3-0 first period lead to end the middle frame 3-2. But as they had the night before, the Kings poured on the goals during the final period to win the game 6-3.

The Kings take to the road Nov. 7 for an 8:30 p.m. game against Westlock. The next home game is Nov. 8 at 8:30 p.m. against the Rocky Rams.
