Federal government opens summer job funding

by Morinville News Staff

Employers are being invited to apply for Canada Summer Jobs funding through the Canada Summer Jobs program to help create student jobs. Funding will be available to not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses. Young people aged 15 to 30 years old who are full-time students and intend to return to school in the following school year can qualify for these job opportunities.

“Our government’s top priorities are job creation, economic growth and long-term prosperity,” said MP Brian Storseth in a news release Dec. 2. “Through Canada Summer Jobs, we are helping local employers create meaningful summer job opportunities for students, while strengthening our community’s economy.”

Applications began Dec. 1. Employers can apply online at www.servicecanada.gc.ca or print an application from the website. They can also get an application by visiting any Service Canada Centre. Applications must be submitted between December 1, 2014 and January 30, 2015.

To help employers complete their application, the Canada Summer Jobs Applicant Guide is available online, by calling 1-800-935-5555, or by visiting any Service Canada Centre.
