Jets fight close one in Wetaskiwin

The Morinville Jets fought a close battle with the Wetaskiwin Icemen Sunday night, emerging with a narrow 7-6 victory over the club.

The win brings the Jets to an 18-8-1 record this season with 10 games left before playoffs. The club is currently ranked in third place in the Capital Junior Hockey League’s West Division – 5 points behind the North Edmonton Red Wings, and 9 points behind the league-leading St. Albert Merchants.

The Jets take to the road Wednesday night for an 8 p.m. game against the Edmonton Royals. They return home Sunday night to face the Beaumont Chiefs at 6:45 p.m.

Weather cancels Kings

Sunday’s Kings / Rocky game was cancelled due to weather, leaving Senior AA fans with time on their hands and an arena open to some extra practice time for minor hockey.

The Kings return to home ice for another Sunday afternoon home game Jan. 11 at 3:30 p.m.

Senior Girls get banner for attitude

Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association (ASBA) recently awarded the MCHS Senior Girls’ Volleyball Team the Sportsmanship Banner for their play and attitude at the 2014 Provincial Championship. In Morinville Community High School’s latest newsletter, Principal Todd Eistetter said the recognition was an excellent award that “highlights many of the positive traits that this team displayed over the course of the season.”
