Morinville Jets fall to Royals in midweek game

The Morinville Jets suffered a 9-4 defeat at the hands of the Edmonton Royals Wednesday night, the club’s first loss in four outings. Wednesday night’s loss brings the Jets to an 18-9-1 record this season and a third-place standing in the CJHL’s West Division. The Jets are five points behind the North Edmonton Red Wings and eight points behind the St. Albert Merchants.

Wednesday night’s game saw the Royals grab a power play goal a minute-and-a-half into the first period. Though the Jets answered back 13 minutes later, the Royals grabbed another before the buzzer to lead the frame 2-1.

The Jets remained largely scoreless in the second period, unable to respond to any of the Royals’ six goals until Travis Geislinger picked up an unassisted short-handed goal with 1:11 left on the clock.

Though the club sprung back in the final frame with two goals, it was too little to counter the number piled on by the Royals.

The Jets host the Beaumont Chiefs Sunday night at 6:45 p.m. at the Ray McDonald Sports Center.
