Morinville Jets

The Morinville Jets were two for two over the weekend.

The Jets came from behind a two-period deficit to take Friday night’s game against the Leduc Riggers 5-4. After trailing 2-1 at the end of the first and 4-1 at the end of the second, the Jets’ Travis Geislinger, off an assist from Jorden Rooke Brett Kampjes, brought the game to a tie with 12 seconds left in the third period. Geislinger, assisted by Rooke and Joshua Perrott, took the game in OT at 3:30.

Sunday night the Jets defeated the Edmonton Mustangs 5-3, building from a first period 2-1 lead to a second period 4-3 lead before adding another goal and another game to their tally. The Jets take on the Hawks in Fort Saskatchewan at 8 p.m. Jan. 23, then return to home ice Jan. 27 at 8:30 p.m. to face the North Edmonton Red Wings.

Morinville Kings

The Morinville Kings pulled off a close 4-3 win overthe visiting Slave Lake Winterhawks Saturday night. After trailing the Winterhawks 2-1 at the end of the first and second periods, the Kings pounded out three goals in the final frame to Slave Lake’s single entry. The win brings the Kings to a 13-4-0 record this season.

Saturday night’s game was to be the King’s final of the season. A previously cancelled game against the Rocky Rams will be played in Morinville Sept. 24 at 9:30 p.m.
