Kings take game three

by Stephen Dafoe

The Morinville Kings won one and lost one in playoff action over the weekend. The Kings fell 4-3 on the road in Slave Lake but settled the score with a 6-1 victory over the Winter Hawks at home Saturday night. The win and loss bring the Kings to a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-five opening playoff round.

Despite being tired from a long road trip the previous night, delayed due to a traffic accident en route to Slave Lake, the Kings did not show it Saturday night.

The Kings kept the Winter Hawks scoreless until the end of the middle frame. The club built from a 2-0 first period lead to 4-0 with one second on the clock. That’s when Slave Lake pocketed their first to close the gap by one. But the final frame was not in the Winter Hawks favour. The Kings added two more to take the game 6-1.

The Kings play game four in Slave Lake Friday night. If the series does not end on the road with a King win, game five will be at home Saturday at 8:30 p.m.
