Three Morinville cheer teams brought home gold from Athabasca this past weekend. The G.H. Primeau Grade 5/6 and 7/8 teams, and the Morinville Community High School (MCHS) Small Varsity team all competed in the Cheer Fest Cheer Competition at the Athabasca Multiplex Feb. 7.

“We are all so very proud of this wonderful group of young ladies, said Coach Amanda Mantyka in an email to Morinville News Monday night.

The G.H. Primeau grade 5/6 team, coached by Tina McKinnon, competed in the Elementary Div 2 division. The G.H. Primeau grade 7/8 team, coached by Theresa Brady and Charmaine Jestin, competed in the Junior High Div 1 division.

“Both G.H.P. Coyote teams had a fabulous performance, doing their coaches proud,” Mantyka said. She added that the elementary and junior high teams will finish off their season competing at the Ross Sheppard Cheer Competition on February 27th and 28th.

Kaitlynn Kelsch-Miller and Amanda Mantyka coached the MCHS Wolves, who competed in the High School Small Varsity Division. The team also finished first.

Mantyka said the Wolves next compete in Red Deer Feb. 21 and at Ross Sheppard Feb. 27 and 28. They finish the season Mar 20 and 21 at the ASAA Provincial Championships at Oscar Romero High School in Edmonton.
