Jets take to playoffs this weekend

by Stephen Dafoe

Tuesday night was a rough way to end what has been a great season for the Morinville Junior B Jets.

After what has been their best season in recent memory, the Jets home-ice finale Tuesday night was a 10-2 loss to their arch-rivals, the St. Albert Merchants.

The Tuesday night loss gave the Jets a 24-11-3 record and 51 points, a tally that put them in the third slot in the Capital Hockey League’s West Division.

As such, the Jets are set to face off against the Edmonton Mustangs, who finished in sixth place this season.

Game one of the best-of-five qualifying round is set for Friday night at the Ray McDonald Sports Center.

Although playoffs start the slate clean, the Jets won four of five outings against the Mustangs during the regular season; their only defeat was an 11-4 upset at the start of the season. With the club’s four wins over the Mustangs being by one or two goals, the opening series could see some close hockey.

Game time for the Feb. 13 contest has not been announced.
