Jets take series in two games

by Stephen Dafoe

A power-play goal in overtime Sunday night set the Morinville Junior B Jets on a path to face the North Edmonton Red Wings in round two of CJHL playoffs. The Jets took the opening series of playoffs in two straight.

The Junior B club did not spend any time licking their wounds from a rough 10-2 regular season defeat by the St. Albert Merchants Feb. 10. The Jets took game one in a best-of-three playoff series 7-3 at home.
The boys came from behind a 1-0 lead to tie the first period 1-1. Twenty minutes later and some action at both ends of the rink and the tally was 4-3 in the Jets favour. The final frame saw the Jets pour it on to take another three goals and the first game in the series 7-3.

The Jets took to the road Sunday night for game two of the series, a contest that was much closer than the series opener. The Jets found themselves trailing 2-1 at the end of the first period, and 3-2 at the end of the middle frame. The third period saw the Jets capitalizing on the power-play to bring the score to 3-3. It is a position both clubs would remain locked into, sending the contest into overtime. Shortly after the clock started in overtime, the Mustangs took another penalty and the Jets cashed the cheque.

The club will square off against the North Edmonton Red Wings for round two, a best-of-five series. Details on game times for the series were not available by our press deadline.
