OK – NOW the Kings have won the series

by Stephen Dafoe

After spending a couple of days scrambling players, a bus and potential ice time to finish NCHL round one series playoffs, the Morinville Kings hit the road Wednesday night and ended the opening series of NCHL playoffs against the Slave Lake Winter Hawks.

Monday night, the league overturned a decision to decrease the series to a best-of-three contest due to a weather-cancelled game.

The Kings stood at 2-1 in the best-of-five series when Gatza announced the Kings won the series due to the cancelled game.

But the road trip to Slave Lake Wednesday night gave the Kings the victory they wanted, and the league the number of games the series could properly be won in.

The Kings and Winter Hawks battled it out for three periods, ending the first period tied 1-1 and the second at 2-2. The Kings advanced in the third to take the game 3-2.

A win on the road or at home would put the Kings up against the Devon Barons Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. at home.
