A new retail store will open on 100 Street next month, answering the call of countless Morinville residents asking for a place to buy a pair of socks when they need them.
Socks 2 Be You is a new venture for retired Cardiff residents Peg and Martin Anklet. The store will be open seven days a week and carry a wide variety of socks in all sizes, colours, and textures.
“Peg and I have cashed our life savings in to start this store up,” said Martin Anklet (62). “We’ve heard for years that people were upset there was no place to buy socks in Morinville when you needed them. So we decided to pull all our money out of our investment portfolio to lease a building, buy our inventory, and build a state-of-the-art website. People won’t even have to come and find us. You place the order, and we’ll deliver your socks to you whenever you need them.”
For Peg Anklet (57), the opportunity to open her own business is a dream come true. “When I worked at Target before they decided to close, we had lots of socks, but I wanted a store with lots and lots of socks. I worked at Starbucks for a while, but they didn’t have socks at all.”
The Anklets will not only have “lots and lots of socks” for their customers to buy, but also lots and lots of hours for people to buy them. The store will initially be open seven days a week, 14 hours a day. They are hoping to be open 24 hours on the weekend as soon as they can train staff as passionate about hosiery as they are.
“We need to be open long hours because we don’t know when someone is going to run out of socks, said Martin Anklet. “What if someone has a hole in the only pair of black socks they own and they have to go to a wedding? They may not have time to drive into St. Albert and have to wear white socks with black shoes. That’s not going
to happen on our watch. We’ll be there for the people of Morinville in their time of need.”
Socks 2 Be You will be open seven days a week from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. Although the store does not open until May 19, the Anklets invite you to visit them online at www.Socks2BeYou.com. The first 100 people to sign up for their mailing list will receive a free pair of dress socks with the store logo on them.
