Volunteer Firefighters raising awareness this week

by Morinville News Staff

The Town of Morinville followed up Mayor Lisa Holmes Apr. 29 proclamation of Volunteer Firefighters Awareness Week with the announcement Monday of a roster of events at the Town Firehall this week.

“We are so fortunate to have such an amazing group of men and women who volunteer their time to protect our community,” said Mayor Lisa Holmes in a release issued Monday afternoon. “This week is a great opportunity to take a few moments to say thank-you and to honour their families that share in the time and dedication needed to fill those roles.”

The Morinville Fire Department will be offering events the public can participate in to show their support for the work volunteer firefighters do for their communities. While some departments in the province struggle to attack firefighters, Morinville has a healthy roster of volunteer firefighters.

The Fire Department’s weekly Wednesday practice will be an open practice this week at 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Residents are encouraged to stop by with their children for an opportunity to try on some bunker gear, get their pictures taken, and spray some water out of an attack line. The event takes place at the arena.

Fire crews will be driving their trucks through Morinville neighbourhoods on Thursday for some district familiarization.

The Department will also hold a Fire Hall Open House on May 9 from 10:30 a.m. until noon. All of the department’s trucks will be on display.

The Don Found Fire Station is located at 10021 100 Street.
