Weatherly going to National Youth Darts

by Lucie Roy

Jessica Weatherly will be competing in her last Youth Dart program in St. Catherines during the May long weekend.
Typically, 10 provinces participate in the Youth National Championships each year. Weatherly is a member of the Alberta Youth Team which consists of two Senior Female, two Senior Male, two Junior Female and two Junior Male team members. Weatherly is joined by three members from Calgary, two from Edmonton, one from Redcliff, and one from Strathmore.

The youth compete for National Titles — Male and Female Junior and Senior Singles Champion, Male and Female Doubles Champions and Junior and Senior Mixed Doubles Champions. Additional levels include the Nodor Cup Team Champion and the Canada Cup Grand Aggregate Champions. There are also two subsidiary events: the NDFC Bursary Shoot and the World Masters Qualifier.

“At the 2014 Youth Nationals in Halifax, Jessica and her partner from Strathmore earned the Gold Medal as the Senior Mixed Doubles Champions,” said Sandi Orr, Darts Alberta Administrator. “Jessica and this same partner are paired together again this year to defend their title. The entire Team Alberta took the Bronze medal in the Canada Cup, a total of all points earned by everyone on the team.”

In 2013, Weatherly was a member of the Alberta Youth team that competed in St. John’s Newfoundland and received Silver in Senior Mixed Doubles with Dawson Murschell. She placed second in the Junior Female 2012 Youth Provincial Championships held in Calgary and won a spot on the 2012 Team Alberta Youth that went to nationals in Thunder Bay. She came home with a bronze medal in that event.
