Anyone who has watched AMC’s The Walking Dead or any of the old George Romero zombie flicks will likely agree $5 is a small price to pay for 10 tips on how to survive the Zombie Apocalypse. Of course, those who do not believe in the potential of such things will have to be content that their $5 will be well spent on an evening’s entertainment.
Morinville Public School Drama students will perform 10 Ways to Survive a Zombie Apocalypse, the school’s first dramatic presentation, May 26 and 27 at the Morinville Community Cultural Centre.
Teacher and director Chris Layton is excited to see the hard work his students began last December unfold on the cultural centre stage.
“It’s the first time Morinville Public’s ever done a school play,” Layton said, adding he previously directed five plays at Gutherie School before coming to MPS. “I was very excited to work with the kids. I picked a zombie play because that’s what the kids are into these days – something they can sink their teeth into. It’s amazing to see these kids apply themselves.”
Layton said he doesn’t want to give much away about the play and the promised 10 tips. He would say that the first tip is to sactrifice the weak. “We run you through some ways to keep yourself safe in the event of a zombie invasion,” he said.
The teacher / director is encouraging people to come and see the play. “It’s our first play so we want to perform to as many people as we can,” Layton said. “Being our first time out, all of the proceeds are going to make drama bigger and better here. We really need people to come out to support the show.”
Doors open each night at 6:30 p.m. and the 40-minute show begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 per seat and available at the school or at the door.
