Community gathers to say farewell to Jade MacDonald

by Morinville News Staff

vigil2About 200 gathered in the Lakes Subdivision Thursday night for a balloon and butterfly vigil in memory of two-year-old Jade MacDonald, who lost her life July 25.

Community members gathered solemnly along the shores of the storm pond to pay their respects and hear the words of Pastor Greg Fraser of the Father’s House Christian Fellowship. Fraser spoke of the tragedy, referenced the Book of John about how Christ had prepared many rooms in His Father’s Mansion, and spoke of Jade now running, jumping and playing in Heaven. Prayer and a few moments of silence and reflection followed the Pastor’s words of comfort to the community.

The Pastor also praised the Morinville Marvelous Moms (MMM) social media group for organizing the vigil, and the community in general for their outpouring of support for the MacDonald Family over the past few days.

The MMM group is assisting with the Jade MacDonald Memorial Fund. An account has been opened with the Servus Credit Union and donations may be made at any branch in the province. Lapel pins are also now available to assist. They may be purchased at The Morinville Community Cultural Centre, Home Hardware, Animal Wellness Vet Clinic, The Green Bean, and beginning Friday afternoon at the Flower Stop.

The community is invited to attend a Celebration of Life service on Friday, July 31 at 2 p.m. at the Morinville Community Cultural Centre (9502 100 Avenue). The Father’s House are inviting the community to attend and show their support for the MacDonald Family.
