Home-ice tournament
The Morinville Jets took to home ice over the weekend for an exhibition tournament. The Jets were joined by the Stony Plain Flyers, Leduc Riggers, and Edmonton Mustangs. Each team played three games Friday to Sunday, with the Jets hitting the ice Friday night against the Flyers. The CJHL regular season begins Sept. 20 with a home-ice game at 6:45 p.m. Tournament results were not available by our press deadline.

Karate demo
Heritage Lodge residents were impressed with the students from Rooke School of Karate who were at the Lodge Sept. 9 to give a demonstration of their patterns and skills.The students also took time to meet the residents after the demo and share a snack and refreshment.

Amazing Race offered family fun
The second annual Amazing Race was held in Morinville on Saturday. This year’s event drew 45 participants to run through the community, taking on challenges at 13 pit stops. This year’s winners were the Campbell family with a time of 1 hour and 34 minutes, the Fairweather family with a time of 1 hour and 54 minutes, and the Mathieson family in last with a time of 2 hours and 48 minutes.

Crib champs
Claude Phaneuf and Joe Jacob took 1st place in th Legion Area A crib pairs competition over the weekend. The card-playing duo will next play in Devon in a district competition.
