Town to hold 3rd Annual Oktoberfest this weekend

by Morinville News Staff

The Town of Morinville is hoping residents will be as enthusiastic about celebrating German culture as they were for the last two years when hundreds have come out to enjoy German entertainment, food and drink. The 3rd Annual Oktoberfest Celebration will take place at the Morinville Community Cultural Centre (MCCC) Oct. 2 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Organizers say this year’s event will have a similar vibe to last year’s – free admittance, free food, and free entertainment. Additionally, attendees will be able to purchase some German beverages.

“We look forward to even more attendees this year and to seeing numerous Dirndls and Lederhosen,” said Community Development Coordinator, Allen Jacobson in a Town of Morinville press release. “This event is for the entire community. There truly is something for everyone at our German heritage celebration.”

Doors open Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. with children’s activities running until 7 p.m. when the opening ceremonies begin. Vinok world Dancers will perform at 7:30 and the Braybek Brothers will perform from 8 p.m. until 10 p.m.

Food and Jam Festival partners with Oktoberfest

The Morinville Festival Society’s Annual Food and Jam Festival will take place in St. Jean Baptiste Park Oct. 3 from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The event will include a chili cook-off, live music, a largest, smallest and weirdest fruit and vegetable contest, corn shucking competition, and a bake-off.
