Morinville Jets zero for two over weekend

by Morinville News Staff

The Morinville Jets hit the ice twice over their weekend but were unable to pick up any points for their troubles. After a 6-2 loss to the Merchants on the road Friday night, the Jets fell 5-2 Sunday night to the visiting Edmonton Mustangs.

The weekend loss and win bring the Jets to a 4-5-0 record nine games into the season.

Friday night’s efforts against the Merchants saw the Jets capitalizing on their powerplay during the first period to give them a 2-2 finish to the frame.

But the second 20 minutes left the club without a goal against the Merchants three contributions, two of which were pocketed when the Jets were down a man.

The Jets would remain scoreless throughout the final 20 while the Merchants widened their margin to 5-2 early in the period.

Sunday night saw the Jets fall once again to the visiting Edmonton Mustangs, a club who are currently at the top of the league’s West Division.

The Jets will have two opportunities to redeem themselves this week. The club takes to the road Friday night to take on the 3-6-1 Stony Plain Flyers and returns home Sunday to face the 4-3-1 Wetaskiwin Icemen. Game time for the road game is 8:30 p.m. and Sunday’s home game is 6:45 p.m.
