Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools have a new board member after René Tremblay won the Morinville Ward Trustee by-election Monday night. Although results will not be official until noon Oct. 23, Tremblay received 74 of the 88 votes cast. His opponent Cathie Sarafinchan received 14 votes.

Following last night’s election, Board Chair Noreen Radford congratulated Tremblay and welcomed him to the board.

“I look forward to working with Mr. Tremblay on the Board as well as serving residents in the Town of Morinville,” Radford said in a release Tuesday. “We are blessed with a community that is growing, and attracting young families.”

Radford went on to say Tremblay is joining the District at what she sees as an exciting time where Catholic education will be expanding in our communities with the building of two new schools, one in the Town of Morinville on the Westwinds development site.

“René Tremblay will be an excellent addition to the Board in assisting us in fulfilling the district vision for the future, Radford said.

Tremblay, a St. Albert resident, said he was honoured to be elected by the residents of Morinville and said he’d do his best to represent them as he advocates Catholic Education.

“I look forward to working with my fellow board members in advancing the success of the District in all of the communities we serve,” Tremblay said. “As a parent of children who attend school in Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools, ensuring that all students access an excellent education resonates close to home for me.”

Pending official results, Tremblay will join his six colleagues on the board, representing 16 schools in the district.

Tremblay is set to take his Oath of Office at the Oct. 26 Board meeting. That meeting is set for 7:30 p.m. in the District Office on 6 St. Vital Avenue, St. Albert.
