Poppy campaign

Above: Pathfinders member Morgan Christopherson takes a donation for a poppy from Cathy Pellerin outside Tim Hortons Saturday. Members of the Cadets, Scouts, Girl Guides and Pathfinders were seen across town with their trays. Every year the Legion conducts the Poppy Campaign to honour those who served, and to raise funds to support veterans and their families. In Canada, the poppy has been the symbol of Remembrance since 1921. One of the reasons for the adoption of the poppy was the poem In Flanders Fields by Lt-Col. John McCrae. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the iconic poem.

Poppy Tree returns

Town employee Felicity Bergman looks at one of the many poppies on the poppy tree erected at Town Hall. Two hundred poppies were crocheted by Morinville resident Lauri Ann Allen, each representing a fallen soldier who passed away from combat and non-combat related duties between 2004 to the present.

Although the poppies are free, donations are accepted with all funds being forwarded to the Wounded Warriors Foundation of Canada.

Oh, what a web

Bryan Fleming was one of two first-place winners for the Spider on the Wall Halloween activity. Fleming was tied for first place with Haillee Reaume. Students – in teams of five – taped one of their members to the wall. They had four minutes for taping the person. The one remaining hanging was the winner. In this semester the students fundraised for the Food Bank in October. November is the school’s toy Drive and December the proceeds from their Mary Poppins play will go towards the Knights of Columbus Hamper program.
