Curling Hall-of-Famer Randy Ferbey, a four-time world champion and six-time Canadian Brier Champion, spent some time at the Morinville Curling Club Nov. 5. Ferbey is promoting his second Everest-Ferbey National Pro-Am contest. The contest is a chance for four participants from across the country to win a VIP trip at the end of March to Digby, Nova Scotia for the 2016 Canadian Senior Curling Championships. The winners will play in the Pro-Am rink with either Ferbey or Olympic Gold Medalist Jennifer Jones, whose team brought home gold from the 2014 Winter Olympics and other pro curlers.

Partners from Everest, The First Nationwide Funeral Planning and Concierge Service, and World Financial Group Insurance Agency of Canada were also present for the announcement. The Everest-Ferbey National Pro-Am is a contest open to senior curlers of all skill levels across the country and is designed to create awareness for seniors curling in Canada.

Ferbey said the contest is open to all senior club members during the contest period of Nov. 1 to Feb. 22. Mike Dubas, Senior League President, said Morinville Curling Club has entered the contest. Each month, participants will be eligible to win an Everest-Ferbey National Pro-Am prize pack that could include t-shirts, hats or a Randy Ferbey autographed poster. The grand prize draw takes place Feb. 26. Four grand prizes and 16 monthly prizes are available to be won during the contest.

Joy Sarazen of World Financial Group, a Morinville resident, will be sponsoring the Morinville rink. “I am actually from Morinville, so I want to sponsor and get a banner on the ice,” she said. “I thought it would be cool to sponsor my own at-home curling team.”

The announcement coincided with the Sturgeon County Seniors’ Fun Spiel. Sturgeon County Mayor Tom Flynn and Councillors Ferd Caron and Jerry Kaup were in attendance at the announcement and fun spiel.
