Kings hammer Warriors on road

by Stephen Dafoe

The Morinville Senior AA Kings took to the road Friday night to face the Westlock Warriors and returned with a 9-1 win for their efforts.

The Kings kept the Warriors off the board throughout the first 40 minutes of the game, finishing with 4-0 and 9-0 leads in the opening and middle frames.

Dalen Paul, Ashton Pietersma, Brayden Arcand and Chris Wilson built the first-period score, and the second period saw a pair of contributions from Timothy Nolte, and one each from Dalen Paul, Shamus Graham and Jordan Panasiuk.
Throughout those two periods, the two clubs racked up a total of six minutes in penalty time, four of those going to the Warriors in the second period.

With 7:54 left in the contest, the Warriors finally opened up the lights on their side of the board after Ryan Nelles pocketed one from Levis Monfette and Nathan Brown. But that is where the score stayed for both sides.
Kings’ backstop Christopher Sharkey stopped 40 of the 41 shots sent his way in a game where the Warriors outpaced the Kings 41-39 in shots.

Friday night’s win brings the Kings to a 3-2-1 record six games into the NCHL season. The Kings sit in second place, right behind the Bonnyville Pontiacs, one of the new clubs in the expanded league.

The Kings have only one game this week, a home-ice contest against the visiting Devon Barons Saturday night at 8:30 p.m.
