Police report on dangers relating to children and strangers

submitted by Morinville RCMP

On November 19th, 2015, Morinville RCMP received a complaint from Notre Dame school that two teenagers had attempted to lure a child away from the school. Upon further investigation by the Morinville RCMP detachment, three other children came forward to report similar incidents this same date; all related to the same teenage youth. The youth responsible for these actions have been identified by police but their names will not be released as per the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

“Anytime we have incidents such as these, especially with children, we take the matters very seriously. We are thankful the young children were cognizant enough to present these teenagers with obstacles and prevent them from achieving what ever outcome they were looking for,” said Corporal Daryl Charron of the Morinville RCMP. “We encourage parents and guardians to talk with their children about the dangers associated with talking to strangers and ensure they are made aware of the reality of these unfortunate incidents. The best thing we can do for our children is prepare them and present them with tools they can use in the case they are faced with a similar situations.”

Morinville RCMP are continuing with their investigation but no charges are likely at this time.
