Volleyball success for MCHS

Junior and Senior Volleyball had success on the court last week.

Both the Junior Boys and Girls won their respective Zones Nov. 17. The Jr. Wolves travelled to Bellerose High School Nov. 19 and took the SAPEC final. The Jr. Girls also took their respective Zones in Mayerthorpe Nov. 17 and SAPEC Tier 2 Title Nov. 18.

Both Sr. Boys and Girls hit the courts to take Zones and both teams will travel to provincials. Their are no provincials at the junior level.

Ringette on the rise

Morinville was host to the first game of the season for local ringette players. The Morinville team hosted Spruce Grove, who won the day 7-5. Morinville was to face Westlock on Sunday. Results were not available by our press deadline. Ringette has risen from about 22 players in 2014 to 33 this season, a 50 per cent increase.

Mentor on the ice

The Morinville Kings start their home games by bringing a minor hockey player on the ice for warm up and the National Anthem. Tim Nolte showed Initiation Mustang player Zachary Thiel the ropes at the Kings Nov. 21 game against the Devon Barons.

Sturgeon Sting

The Sturgeon Midget AA Sting took to the ice Saturday afternoon to face fellow NAMHA players the Whitecourt Wolverines. The Sting have just unveiled a new jersey over the past week, beat the Wolverines 5-2. The club will be holding a Toy & Food Drive during their Dec. 11 and 12 home games.

Alumni game

Morinville Jets Alumni put on home and road jerseys Friday night to kick off Sports Weekend in Morinville. The Jets played one another before taking on a team from Edmonton.

The current crop of Jets played Saturday nightand fell 7-3 to the visitng St. Albert Merchants.
