The Morinville Kings fell 7-3 to the Tofield Satellites in a game that never generated much momentum for the Kings.

Both teams sat scoreless for almost half the opening frame, and the Kings trailed Tofield for 12 minutes until Riley Miller pocketed one from Ashton Pietersma with 33 seconds left in the period to make it 1-1 heading into the second.

But the Satellites controlled the signal in the second period, scoring five goals on their 16 chances against Kings backstop Christopher Sharkey.

Trailing 6-1 at the top of the third, the Kings worked to narrow the gap.

Joshua Lafleche dropped the gap to 6-2 at 12:46, assisted by from Dalen Paul and Cody Issler. Ashton Pietersma brought it 6-3 with an assist from Neil Tarnasky at 8:42. But the Kings could not capitalize further on any of their other 10 chances that period. Toefield pocketed their seventh with 1:42 left in the game.

Saturday night’s loss brought the Kings to a 5-5-1 record this season, nine points behind the Tofield Satellites and the Bonnyville Pontiacs.

The Kings took on the Pontiacs Sunday afternoon on the road.
