Town changes department name to include economic component

submitted by Town of Morinville

A new name for the Planning & Development department has been released to better reflect the essence and continued work the department is undertaking. Effective immediately, the department is renaming to the Planning and Economic Development Department as a means to highlight the departments’ continued commitment to economic development and to keep aligned with the Town’s Municipal Sustainability Plan and 2015-17 Strategic Plan.

“This department renaming is timely and reflects Council’s continued commitment to economic development and growth in our community,” says Mayor Lisa Holmes. “Morinville is a thriving community and we are excited for what the future will bring.”

Morinville has once again seen strong growth in development activity with 30 per cent of all development in 2015 being that of commercial projects. Morinville is a thriving town for businesses as we boast the lowest non-residential tax rate in the capital region. With our pro-business approach and our educated local labour force, Morinville proves to be a vibrant business community.

In December local businesses will have the opportunity to complete an annual business survey – 2015 Morinville Biz Pulse, which will be available to complete until January 31, 2016. The purpose of the survey is to better understand Morinville’s current economic development situation, and what businesses require to succeed. We certainly appreciate your input. The survey can be accessed on the Town of Morinville website at www.morinville.ca.
