Caron steps down from public office

submitted by Greater St. Albert Catholic School Board

Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools Board meeting last evening generated a great deal of emotion as Trustee [Dave] Caron submitted his resignation after serving more than twenty-three years. He shared with his fellow trustees that “my decision to step down was not an easy one; serving the St. Albert community for more than two decades as a passionate advocate for Catholic Public education has been rewarding. I had the privilege of being part of the Board for several terms, and to witness the growth and success of a top performing District has been tremendous. I wish the Board continued success and commend all of the students and staff for their roles in making Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools the best!”

At the meeting Board Chair, Noreen Radford commented that “it is with regret that we accept Trustee Caron’s resignation. He has been an asset to this Board for many years and his contributions to the District as an elected official are numerous; his commitment to Catholic education and his leadership on the Board will be missed!”

This resignation leaves a vacancy on the Board in the St. Albert Ward and trustees will discuss at a future meeting whether or not a by-election will take place. The next scheduled election is planned for the fall 2017. In the interim, St. Albert trustees Crockett, Shaw and Vice-Chair, McEvoy will continue to represent the community. There are seven positions on the Board; four in St. Albert, two in Morinville and one in Legal.
