High School students in Grade 11 and 12 at Morinville Community High School or Sturgeon Composite High School with an 80 per cent average have an opportunity to write an essay and win a trip to Ontario or Saskatchewan. Rotary Youth Leader Kathy Sandmaier made a presentation to the Rotary Club of Morinville Jan. 27.
One of the trips is to Adventures in Technology taking place in Saskatoon from Apr. 24 to 29. It features an intense four-and-one-half day exploration of advanced technology, research, development and applications. The essay question is “How do I feel technology will be changing in the future.”
The second trip is to go to Ottawa for Rotary Adventures in Citizenship program, taking place May 1 to 4. The students will have an opportunity to tour the Parliament Buildings, and be in discussions with the Speaker and staff members of the House of Commons. They will prepare for election-style debates, meet with foreign and Canadian diplomats from the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, sit in at Citizenship Court, and listen to keynote speakers.
The essay question for this trip is “What does being a Canadian citizenship mean to me.”
Rotary Interact students will also be hosting a spaghetti dinner on Valentines’ Day in conjunction with the Family Day weekend. The event takes place from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Morinville Community Cultural Centre. Proceeds from the event will go towards Interact’s trip to Mexico.
