It was a fourth place finish for the Morinville Community High School Wolves Senior Boys Basketball team in their 22nd Annual Invitational Tournament. Seven teams from throughout the province joined the Wolves for the two-day event, playing three games each for a chance at tournament gold.

The Wolves started the weekend Friday afternoon with a 65-55 win over Athabasca’s Edwin Parr Composite High School. In that contest, the boys built steadily from a 22-13 first quarter lead to 38-20 at the half. Morinville expanded that lead to 50-37 after three and still lead by 10 at the end with a 65-55 finish.

Saturday morning put the Boys up against Edmonton’s Eastglen High School. It was competition that proved tougher for the team. After trailing 19-6 after the first quarter, the MCHS Wolves continued to slide to trail 44-13 at the half. The third quarter saw Morinville earn two points to Eastglen’s 14, ending the third quarter with a 56-15 deficit. The final quarter ended 76-22 in Eastglen’s favour, putting the Boys in the third place round with Edmonton’s Archbishop Oscar Romero High School.

The Senior Boys trailed Romero throughout their final game, ending 22-4, 36-17, 64-26, and 80-31.
